Installing A Ceiling Fan - Ceiling Fan Installation Instrutions

So you're at the big chain building supply store near you. You find this great ceiling fan, you just have to have it. How are you going to hang it? Let me help you.

Ceiling fans are easy to install. Time consuming yes, but easy. 90% of ceiling fan installation is following the instructions. You've got to have somewhere to hang a ceiling fan.

If youre just replacing a fan that your tired of, great. This means you've already got a sturdy box to mount it to. If you have a regular light fixture that's ok too! This means you've got a box to hang to there as well. If you don't have any light fixture or ceiling fan where you want to hang then that's a problem. In this case you may want to call an electrician to run power and mount the fan for you.

But we're not here for that so let's get back to hanging your ceiling fan. First you need to remove your light fixture or old ceiling fan. Before you begin though, turn off the light switch or the breaker, which ever makes you comfortable. No need to get shocked!

Light fixtures normally have two screws holding them to the light box. Remove the two screws, lower the fixture, and disconnect the wires. With a ceiling fan you normally just lower the decorative plate from the ceiling, disconnect the wires, and remove the ball socket from the mounting plate, that's it.

Some fans mount like a light fixture just remove screws, lower, and disconnect wires. Also remove your old mounting plate. When installing the new ceiling fan, follow the directions as closely as possible.

First hang the mounting plate, hang the fan motor with the ball socket, wire it up (blue and black to black, white to white, green to green), put the blades on, mount the light. The blades and light go on last so that the fan is lighter when you hang it.

In following the instructions you will put on all of the decorative trim and should be ready to turn the power on and try out your beautiful new ceiling fan. Enjoy.
