Why Fuss about Flooring When You Love to Entertain

A Seriously Fun Flooring Option that’s Good for Your Body, Mind and Soul

(ARA) – If you do a lot of entertaining, keeping your house clean is probably one of your biggest challenges. Every time you turn around, it seems like you’re picking up clutter, putting things away, and cleaning the floors.

Carpet is one of the most difficult surfaces to maintain. It needs to be vacuumed frequently and spot treated for stains. Wood floors need to be swept, mopped and waxed. Ceramic tile is a little easier to deal with, but if you’re not careful, and drop something heavy, it can chip. “People don’t want to deal with all those hassles, and they shouldn’t have to,” says Piera Marotto of Forbo Linoleum, Inc. in Hazelton, Pa. “There is a flooring surface called Marmoleum that is warm, comfortable to walk on, offers limitless design options, and is easy to clean as well!” Marmoleum is a natural, environmentally friendly, anti-static floor with bacteria resistant qualities. It has been the surface of choice at hospitals for years, and is becoming popular in home settings as well. “People like the fact that it’s an easy to clean, health conscious alternative flooring surface,” says Marotto.

When Connie McLeod of Andover, N.H., decided to renovate the home she and her family have lived in for 28 years this past summer, she ripped up the carpet, tile, and hardwood flooring in the sunroom, dining room, two of the bathrooms, the breezeway and foyer and replaced them with Marmoleum.

“When we had the hardwood flooring down, I had to worry about people tripping over the throw-rugs I put down as decorations. Now the design is actually engrained in the floor,” says McLeod. A sunflower design is in the sunroom; the breezeway has a maroon, gray and white border.

Forbo Marmoleum comes in more than 100 different colors, ranging from soft muted pastels to bolder and vibrant deep marble, cubed or splatter effects. The flooring can be purchased in tile or sheets. Design it yourself border and corner pieces are also available. Marmoleum can be installed for between $4.50 and $9.50 per square foot or more depending on the intricacy of the design you choose.

When it comes to cleaning, all the surface requires is the occasional dust and damp mopping. If you spill something on a Marmoleum surface, just wipe it up with a wet cloth and it’s gone. Unlike with carpet and other surfaces, stains don’t sink in.

Our philosophy is that time is better spent having fun than cleaning up life’s little messes,” says Marotto.
